This is a placeholder for this Saturday’s game.

The story so far…

The Battle of Foy (the-bridge-over-the-river-wye-t2095.html) saw the combined Royalist/BUF force trapped in the Foy salient, almost totally surrounded by the River Wye and cut off from the land route by the sabotaged Hereford-Ross railway, along which runs the Anglican League lines.

Soon the Royalists and BUF began to squabble as each faction blamed the other for their predicament. This was also fuelled by the rivalry between the Royalist Governor of Hereford and the newly arrived BUF kingpin the Baron of Foy.

Keen to capitalise on the infighting, The Anglican League approached the not unsympathetic Royalists with a proposition: release their spiritual leader the Bishop of Hereford (re)captured during the 2nd Battle of Ledbury (http://hereford1938.blogspot.co.uk/2013 ... shire.html), in return for safe passage out of the Foy enclave and an honourable withdrawal back to Hereford.

To the BUF’s fury, the Royalists have agreed to this plan.

Saturday will once again see forces converging on Foy, as a Royalist transport column; bearing not only the Bishop of Hereford but also the Governor himself, keen to ensure that all goes smoothly; makes it’s way to the rendezvous point, where the Anglican League and the trapped Royalists eye each other warily in an uneasy truce.

However the BUF are unlikely to take this situation lying down and Baron Foy is determined to seize the initiative. Those BUF forces not trapped in the enclave are gathering nearby, and rumours abound of agitators and malcontents from the industrial regions, all pursuing their own agendas.

The action will be spread across 3 tables, and we have over a dozen players. Throw in some interesting fauna, some scarecrows and too many potholes to count and it promises to be a corker of a game!

I'm fidgetting with anticipation and anxiety already (at least, I hope that's what making me fidget). :Bgrin

Breaking News !

Royalist-Anglican deal to exchange the Bishop of Hereford foiled.

Socialists foil plot to exchange the Bishop for freeing Royalist forces in Foy by blocking the roads, and attacking Anglican troops at the proposed exchange site.
Anglicans and Socialists broker a new deal.
Royalists and local BUF commander broker another deal to escape on foot leaving heavy equipment behind.
Baron of Foy escapes in disguise !

BUF attack on Sir Gilbert's forces thwarted, but at the last moment his precious steam powered armoured car knocked out by Captain Arrowsmith's tank.
BUF cavalry and vehicles flee to fight another day.

All factions have chains of command breaking down. Governor of Hereford fears for life after rumors of assassination attempt. Arrowsmith critical of local BUF hierarchy. Socialists and Anglicans face new schism in their tenuos alliance. Royalists fail to support BUF break out attempts !

More news and pictures from all your unbiased corespondents shortly.

Shifting alliances, betrayal, the line between winning and losing blurred, plus sheep, scarecrows and miraculous morale rolls! A great game was had by all! AARs coming soon...

Table 2 !
JP made a throw away remark on Tuesday about the need for a railway embankment, by Friday, Roo had delivered a railway embankment !

There were 14 of us on three tables. We also head a couple of new guys, Matt and Leadboy for their first outings at a Big Game. They seemed to enjoy our madcap gaming.

Table 1, was the Royalist column trying to escort the Bishop to the exchange point. J (Royalist), Tym (Royalist), JP (Socialist) & Matt Slade (Socialist).
Table 2, was the exchange point, with Anglican defences awaiting the Royalists, whilst facing down the BUF and Royalists in Foy. MC (BUF), Roo / me (Royalist), Mort (Anglican), Leadboy (Clive) (Anglican)
Table 3, fending off Anglican reinforcements. Doug (Anglican supporting Welsh Nationalist, gangsters dodgy types), Matt (Anglicans), Richard (BUF), Gav A (BUF)

Much fun was had by all. We're now awaiting the curry and have cracked open a lot of drinks.
Lots of double dealing, paranoia and JP & I are gong to have a hell of a job working out the next step in our Hereford campaign.

:moni

A series of pompous one liners will appear shortly.

Currently we are discussing BUF anti-tank penguins and the use of chocolate chip cookies as smoke markers (Yes, there are photos of this).

Semi unattributted one liners:

"Post Ofifce Rocket team is NOT a phrase you hear very often"

(After two post boxes were shot apart with ATRs...)

"Tanks are so difficult to destroy, even with other tanks..."

"Always have a back door, this won me the game"
(Mort, and the double dealing...) ;-)

"That's the first time I've ever seen an anti-tank rifle hit anything !"

"What's wrong with our artillery today ?"

"Where did the Socialists get a bloody heavy tank from ?"

"There's always another use for a chocolate chip biscuit"

"Socialists don't look at explosions, they kill everyone and walk away"
